E-learning programme launched to assist GSAT, CSEC students

The programme aims to make the learning process more interesting, using the popular role-playing game technique.

Gordon Swaby, 21, chief executive office and founder, said the idea of creating the online learning centre was born on August 23, 2010. However, he had no idea where the money or team would come from.

"During the development of this dream, I can't say there is an emotion that I did not experience. I've gone from pride to disappointment to excitement to more excitement, to even more excitement. I've even shed a few tears here and there. It's been a roller-coaster ride to get to this point, but today, Thursday, March 15, 2012, I am finally ready to share with the world an idea come to life," Swaby said during the launch at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, New Kingston.

Edufocal has examination-type questions from some of the island's brightest teachers and provides access to a wide array of subjects.

Starting at level one in all subjects, students will be encouraged with prizes and giveaways to keep them motivated. Registration for Edufocal is to cost J$200 per month, or J$2,000 per year.

Peter Levy, managing director of the British Caribbean Insurance Company, said his company decided to sponsor the programme because of the concept.

"I came across Gordon and Edufocal, who aren't just thinking outside the 'box', or classroom if you will, instead they are promising to blow it up," said Levy.
